i am that girl. the girl that stresses about everything. i have been thinking about labor since the day that i found out that i was pregnant. after i had max i forgot it all. any of the pain i experienced, the uncomfortable moments, what labor felt like...but as my pregnancy progressed i started to remember it all again. and the thought of labor started to scare me.
in my eighth month [thirty-five weeks] i found out that i was dilated to a one and twenty-five percent effaced. my doctor was convinced that i would have the baby anytime. but i proved him wrong. i made it to three more appointments after that and each time he was surprised to see me. at thirty-seven weeks i was dilated to three and eighty percent effaced...and at thirty-eight weeks i was exactly the same.
on the morning of march eighteenth as i was getting ready for the day my water broke. i immediately called my sister, janelle, to have her meet me at the hospital to pick up max. when i first arrived at the hospital they checked me again and i was still dilated to a three and eighty percent effaced. once they confirmed that my water broke they admitted me to the hospital. although my water had broke i was not contracting which in turn meant that i was not dilating. so the nurse ordered the pitocin and i called for my epidural.
after a hour of monitoring i was still a three and still was not having any contractions. they continued to up my dose of pitocin every half hour until i was maxed out. three hours later i was dilated to a seven and one hundred percent effaced...and i didn't feel a thing. once the doctor got to the room the baby was already crowning. i pushed once and her head came out. i pushed another time and her body was out. my total labor time was six hours. at 5:50pm sweet baby Kate Bonnie Robertson was born.
i did not feel any pain and my recovery has been amazing too. all of that worrying was not worth it. i really had such a great labor experience. and i couldn't be more happy to have baby kate here. she is perfect. i couldn't be more grateful to have such a sweet baby. and when you think you can't possibly love another baby like you did your first...i am here to say that YOU CAN.
